The Clark Art Institute
Project Description
The Judd Allen Group was asked by the prestigious Clark Art Institute to provide technical peer review services for the renovation and expansion of their existing campus. The Institute design team is comprised of the internationally famous Design Architect from Japan, Tadao Ando, and Gensler, an Executive Architect Group from New York City. In addition to the two phase addition of new structures, the project also included renovation of the two original Institute buildings.
The new Ando addition to The Clark involved siting a very modern, glazed museum above and below grade, beside a reflecting pond, concealing flashings in the modern design. Also, the new addition had to tie into two existing buildings, with all buildings upgraded in performance to handle the art environment requirements of constant 50% interior humidity.
The Judd Allen Group successfully delivered Enclosure Commissioning Services on the project covering all enclosure systems such as fenestration, stone, cast-in-place concrete walls, masonry, waterproofing and air/vapor barriers to help ensure their conformance to the Owner’s Project Requirements and the Basis of Design. Our commissioning effort consisted of plan review as well as consultation on problematic details throughout the design phases and construction.
